Glastonbury: Blame Mud Not Jay-Z
Emily Eavis has claimed that the reason 2008's registration numbers are significantly down on last year is because of the infamous mud and inclement weather and not headliner Jay-Z.
As anyone who's completed the 2005 and 2007 tours of duty at the Glastonbury Festival will attest, the rain and the mud are enough to put off even the hardiest of festival goers. Eavis is convinced that it's this factor and not headliner Jay-Z that has put people off from registering this this year.
According to some reports, registrations are down to 250,000 compared to last year's 400,000.
Speaking to NME, Emily Eavis said: "I'm sure it's because of the weather. People only remember the last festival, so if it was really muddy… I don't blame them, to be honest. Everybody needs a rest."
She then stated that she was very happy with how the registration has turned out.
She explained: "As soon as Michael [Eavis] made that announcement [that this year's registration numbers were down year on year] we had tens of thousands of people suddenly registering, because they thought they'd have more chance. It went really well – I always worry about registration, I worry about whether people are going to come at all!"
The 2008 Glastonbury Festival will be held as usual at Worthy Farm, Pilton on June 27-29.
