The Reverend: "Celebrities Must Be Brought To Account!"
Reverend And The Makers' frontman Jon McClure is all set to board the freedom bus in an attempt to bring proper debate to the music world. And he has a few choice words to say about the Klaxons, too...
The Reverend himself - Jon McClure - has fired another broadside at the music industry, claiming that it's impossible to be successful . Coming after comments last week that the next album would be Reverend And The Makers' last because of his "disgust" at the music, the Reverend told Xfm, "Let's see how we get on... It's become increasingly a closed shop run by money men, particularly white, rich men. The indie scene is becoming increasingly detached from all other things. I don't think British guitar music has advanced in the last 20 years at all, really. The indie community needs to open itself to hip hop and stuff like that."
The Rev also slammed the lacklustre state of modern bands: "I read an interview with The Klaxons and they said that we sat down one day and decided, which genre of music has not been re-invented yet? Now that, to me, sounds like corporate marketing decision, it doesn't sound like an artistic decision."

It's not just talk from The Reverend, however, he's taking his cause out on the road, having started the "Instigate Debate" campaign at his website www.iamreverend.com. "We've got people like Carl Barat involved and we're going to get an open-topped bus and find people like Rupert Murdoch's son and hold these people to account. People are putting money in [celebrities'] pockets who are doing nothing to justify it. The idea is that if people get celebrities to answer questions that matter, we're going to come 'round their house and play".
