Wakey Wakey, Wakestock!
Indie rock meets DJ sets meets wakeboarding - it can only mean Wakestock, now housed at a second site in rural Oxfordshire. Cowabunga! Or something.
If you like to mix extreme sport, live music and national heritage sites then maybe you should amble off to the home of the Duke of Marlborough this weekend and sample the high-octane excitement of the Relentless Wakestock Festival.
Set in the picturesque grounds of Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, the 2008 Wakestock Festival has come along way from its conception as a party in a car park after a wakeboard contest in Abersoch in 2000. The site, complete with its own lake, will play host to the worlds best wakeboarders as they battle it out for the title of Relentless Wakestock Blenheim Champion as well as some of today’s hottest live acts.
There will be performances from well established acts such as Happy Mondays, The Streets, Groove Armada, Supergrass and Mark Ronson. In addition current indie favourites Mystery Jets, Black Kids, Young Knives and The Futureheads will also perform.
Upcoming acts also feature with the likes Lightspeed Champion, Operator Please, Goldierocks and You Me At Six all on the bill. To make sure the party keeps going until the early morning there will be DJ sets from Pete Tong, DJ Nu-Mark, Plump DJs and the Trophy Twins as well as live sets from Pendulum, Audio Bullys and Metronomy.
Like the best British Festivals, Wakestock serves up a culture clash so eclectic you can almost imagine the Duke of Marlborough himself making a Michael Eavis style appearance at the side of the stage!
