After achieving popular success with the single Yellow in 2000, followed by their debut album Parachutes, which was nominated for a Mercury Prize, Coldplay have gone on to sell over 50 million records and have established themselves as one of the biggest selling acts in the world. Known as much for their support for various social and political causes as their music, Coldplay's phenomenal success has not come without criticism from the cool kids of the British music scene. The band remain one of music's best-selling acts, however, and continue to sell-out stadiums regularly across the world.
